30AD Cross of Christ: Old to New Covenant moment of change

Everything that was required to be fulfilled in order to retire the Law of Moses was fulfilled upon the Cross by Jesus Christ, Himself announcing it with His dying shout, "It is finished/fulfilled/paid in full!" (This is classic Christian theology, nothing novel or innovative here even though there is still a way for it to accord with the doctrine of the Lord Jesus' 70AD Return. See also: Everlasting Law of Christ /?q=node/68).

The notion that the Law of Moses carried any authority after Jesus shouted from the Cross, "It is finished!" should be reconsidered. Otherwise, Christ's Apostles Peter & Paul must be considered the least in the Kingdom of the Heavens because although they were true, Biblical Jews, Peter & Paul lived as the believing Gentiles, relying upon the Law of Christ alone for righteousness rather than the Law of Moses.

Matthew 5:17-20 (around 27AD, at the beginning of Jesus' public ministry)
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the Law [of Moses], or the Prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil (Strong's #4137). 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law [of Moses], till all be fulfilled (Strong's #1096). 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
30-70AD Millennialism would have us to believe that this statement by Jesus means that the Old Testament Law of Moses was to remain binding and in full effect until all the Law & Prophets are fulfilled; and that this fulfillment did not occur until 70AD. This notion is what drives them to insist that whatever is found in pages of the Bible MUST be fulfilled before 70AD because the Law of Moses remains binding until all is fulfilled.

But let us consider something else Jesus said,
John 19:28-30 (around 30AD, at the ending of Jesus' public ministry)
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished (#5055), that the scripture might be fulfilled (#5048), saith, "I thirst!" 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished!" (#5055): and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Whatever 30-70AD Millennialism may say this means, here's what "It is finished! (#5055)" meant to Paul back around 58AD, long prior to 70AD's "all things fulfilled," (so-called).
Romans 10:3-4 (around 58AD, when Paul departs from Corinth, well prior to 70AD's supposed "fulfillment of all [Bible] things")
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end (#5056) of the Law [of Moses] for righteousness to every one that believeth.
And here's a glimpse of how Peter & Paul's understanding of "It is finished! (#5055)" worked out into the daily lives of Christians back around 49AD, long before "all things fulfilled" (supposedly) in 70AD.
Galatians 2:11-21 (around 49AD, Paul, the new guy, publically confronts veteran leader Peter at one of the first Christian conferences ever)
But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. 12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. 13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation. 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, "If thou [Peter], being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? 15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law [of Moses], but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the Law [of Moses]: for by the works of the Law [of Moses] shall no flesh be justified. 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. 18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 19 For I through the Law [of Moses] am dead to the Law [of Moses], that I might live unto God. 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the Law [of Moses], then Christ is dead in vain! "
Paul, a Hebrew of the Hebrews, a (former) Pharisee son of a Pharisee, (Philippians 3:5-8), was so certain that "all be fulfilled!" sufficiently to retire the Law [of Moses] per Matthew 5:18 that he considered obedience to the commandments of the Law [of Moses] entirely optional. Paul would freely obey or discard the Law [of Moses] depending upon the cultural concerns of whatever people group he was trying to reach for Christ. Obeying even the least of those commandments was for Paul strictly a cultural concern of sensitivity towards reaching followers of Old Testament Judaism for Christ.
1 Corinthians 9:18-23 (around 57 AD, Paul writes to the church at Corinth)
When I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the Law [of Moses], as under the Law [of Moses], that I might gain them that are under the Law [of Moses]; 21 To them that are without Law [of Moses], as without Law [of Moses], (being not without law to God, but under the Law of Christ,) that I might gain them that are without Law [of Moses]. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
So, did Christ, the Apostles, and the Jew-Gentile churches (founded largely by former synagogue members), consider Paul and Peter "the least in the kingdom of heaven" because they "lived after the manner of Gentiles and not as do the Jews"? I dare any 30-70 Millennialist to say that they were. No, it was the Judaizers who went around saying things like, "All things have not been fulfilled enough yet, so the Bible says you need to keep obeying the Law [of Moses] until they are!" So we see that 30-70AD Millennialism has something very much in common with the Judaizers, the NT enemies of the Gospel. (Not to mention again the inescapable connection with Universalism via 30-70AD Millenialism's Gnostic-style deviation from orthodox resurrection. Remember, it was Hymenaeus & Philetus who were saying things like, "Since the 1st Resurrection of the Just that is already past was all about people "coming to covenant life" in Christ (Rev 20:4), the Resurrection of the Rest of the Dead, Rev 20:5, when Jesus comes back will be about everybody else ‘coming to covenant life’ in Christ (Rev 20:5), too: nobody but the Devil is going to Hell! Yippee!" (2 Tim 2:11-18). But Paul still wanted to be in that number of First Resurrected Saints, Phillippians 3:10-13, therefore the first Resurrection described in Rev 20:4-6 was still yet to be. /?q=node/46 and /?q=node/47).

Evidently enough, Christ, the Apostles & the churches of the 30-70AD period believed and taught that all things necessary to retire the Old Testament Law of Moses, all the things Jesus had been talking about in the Matt 5:17-20 context, had already been fulfilled at Jesus' death shout from the Cross, "It is finished!" (John 19:30).
Colossians 2:13-17 (around 62AD, Paul writes to the church at Colossae)
...Having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;... 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Below here is what the Apostles & the churches thought of those still teaching that the Law [of Moses] must still be kept up "until all things be fulfilled" someday, (supposedly) at 70AD. One should study the meaning of the word "justified" and find that it means "declared innocent: having satisfied all the Law's requirements."
Galatians 3:9-15 (around 49AD, Paul still recounting the meaning behind his public confrontation of Peter's hypocrisy)
9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. 10 For as many as are of the works of the Law [of Moses] are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the Law [of Moses] to do them. 11 But that no man is justified by the Law [of Moses] in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.12 And the Law [of Moses] is NOT of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the Law [of Moses], being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto....
Acts 15:5-35
But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise THEM [the Gentile converts to Christ], and to command THEM to keep the Law of Moses. 6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. 11 But WE BELEIVE THAT THROUGH THE GRACE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WE SHALL BE SAVED, EVEN AS THEY [the Gentile converts to Christ].19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not THEM, …
21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day. 22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren: 23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch Syria Cilicia: and … and … 24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the Law [of Moses]: to whom we gave no such commandment: 25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, … 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; … they delivered the epistle: 31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced
So again, In review here: Did Christ, the Apostles and the Jew-Gentile churches (founded largely by former synagogue members), identify Paul and Peter as "the least in the Kingdom of the Heavens" because they "lived after the manner of Gentiles and not as do the Jews" per Gal 2:14? NO. (I dare any 30-70 Millennialist to say that they were). No, it was the Judaizers who went around saying things like, "All things have not been fulfilled yet, so Jesus says you need to keep obeying the Law [of Moses] until they are!" So we see that 30-70AD Millennialism has something very much in common with the Judaizers, the New Testament enemies of the Gospel.

OBEDIENCE TO CHRIST = LOVE = FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW OF MOSES
Romans 13:8-10
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the Law [of Moses]. 9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law [of Moses].
NKJV
Peter & Paul fulfilled the Law [of Moses] blamelessly because they walked in love, NOT because they preached and obeyed Moses. They obeyed Christ, and obedience to Christ satisfies every law. “And this is love: that we keep Christ’s commandments.” 2 John 6

2 John 6-10
This is love, that we walk according to His [Christ's] commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it. 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. 9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.
NKJV

CIRCUMCISION: the bodily sign of one's pledge of allegience to the Law of Moses:

Galatians 1:6-9
6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
NKJV

Galatians 5:6-15
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is. 11 And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased. 12 I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off! 13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the Law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Galatians 6:13-16
For not even those who are circumcised keep the Law [of Moses], but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
NKJV
Again, by loving their neighbors as themselves as the Commands of Christ instruct, Peter & Paul fully satisfied every law even though, "I, [Paul], said unto Peter before them all,
‘If thou [Peter], being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?’ “, (Galatians 2"11-21). THIS is Scripture. Being "justified" means "satisfying the Law." They taught that those Jew-Gentile churches in Galatia & Rome, etc. were justified by faith-inspired obedience to Christ rather than by fear-driven obedience to Moses. “We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law [of Moses], but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the Law [of Moses]: for by the works of the Law [of Moses] shall no flesh be justified.” (Galatians 2:15-16).

From the Cross onward,
Obedience to Jesus Christ fully satisfies the Law of Moses.
This is how Peter & Paul and the Jew-Gentile churches founded by former synagogue members were blameless before the Law of Moses while "living after the manner of Gentiles." They lived after the manner of Gentiles who obeyed Jesus Christ, King of Israel. And if there is anybody who determines citizenship in Israel, it is the King of Israel, Jesus Christ. And if there is anyone who lays down the criteria of who is a Jew indeed, it is the King of the Jews, Jesus Christ. Is Jesus your King? Then what does that make you? Have you been born-again into Jesus’ immediate family? Then His genealogy is your genealogy and what does that make you?

Peter, moved by the Holy Spirit of God, preached about Jesus from Deuteronomy 18:15-22 at that first Christian Pentecost to actual, Biblical Jews in Jerusalem:
Acts 3:22-23
For Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything He tells you. 23 Anyone who does not listen to Him will be completely cut off from among his people.'
NIV
"Cut off from among his people" is the term Moses consistently used for the penalty for failing to satisfy the Law of Moses. And obeying Jesus, the Prophet like Moses, was part of the Law of Moses. Whoever failed to heed Jesus failed to satisfy the Law of Moses. Jews, real Biblical Jews who actually presented genuine genealogies on file in the last physical Temple, Jews were broken off as branches from Israel for their unbelief in Christ Jesus. (Romans 11:16-23). And Gentiles with pedigrees no better known than that of street dogs were grafted into Israel because of their faith in Christ Jesus. Since the first appearrance of Jesus Christ, the Law of Moses is satisfied ONLY by obeying Jesus Christ, "the Prophet like me," of whom Moses wrote. And failure to obey Jesus Christ meant being cut off from among the People of Moses. Obeying the Gospel of Christ satisfies the Law of Moses: since Christ's first appearrance, it is the ONLY satisfaction of the Law of Moses. And from the Cross forward, anyone who obeyed the Gospel of Christ was blameless before the Law of Moses regardless of circumcision, new moons, sabbaths, animal sacrifices, feast days, etc., which all became moot, empty shadows when compared to the substance that was made available with Christ at His fisrt appearing.
John 19:30 & Mark 15:37-39 NKJV
30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished! (#5055)" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
37 And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. 38 Then the veil of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, "Truly this Man was the Son of God!"

Christ is the end (#5056) of the Law of Moses, Romans 10:4, not the destruction of that last levitical temple 40 years later in 70AD.

The Scriptures cited here above show plainly enough what the Apostles & the churches thought of those still teaching that the Law [of Moses] must still be kept up "until all things be fulfilled" (supposedly) at 70AD. Evidently enough, Christ, the Apostles & the churches of the 30-70AD period believed and taught that all things necessary to retire the Old Testament Law & Prophets, all the things Jesus had been talking about in the Matt 5:17-20 context, had already been fulfilled at Jesus' death shout from the Cross, "It is finished!" (John 19:30). The change of the covenants occurred at Christ's offering of Himself at the Cross. God graciously granted 40 years for everyone to voluntarily realize this before making it violently clear at the 70AD destruction of Jerusalem.

30AD Soul for souls, Body for bodies, Sin-offering for sinners

A MEDITATION
Do you believe that the physical death of Christ is the payment for the penalty of our sin?
When eating the Supper of the Lord we should remember that:
Jesus offered His blood on the Cross and His body of flesh to God as a sin-offering on our behalf.
The Son of God's blood/soul was offered for the redemption/resurrection of our souls.
The Son of God's flesh/body was offered for the redemption/resurrection of our bodies.
Soul for soul, Blood for blood, Flesh for flesh, Body for body
Sin-offering for sin.
An Englishman's concordance search reveals that "psuche #5590" = "soul" throughout the bulk of the New Testament.
When we employ a Greek Old Testament LXX we can see something very interesting about the use of this word "psuche #5590" = "soul."
Lev 17:10-14 (LXX Greek Old Testament text with NT Strong's #)
10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood (aima #129); I will even set my face against that soul (psuche #5590) that eateth blood (aima #129), and will cut him off from among his people.
11 For the life (psuche #5590) of the flesh (sarkos #4561) is in the blood (aima #129): and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls (psuche #5590): for it is the blood (aima #129) that maketh an atonement for the soul (psuche #5590).
12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul (psuche #5590) of you shall eat blood (aima #129), neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood (#129).
13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood (#129) thereof, and cover it with dust.
14 For it is the life (psuche #5590) of all flesh (sarkos #4561); the blood (aima #129) of it is for the life (psyche #5590) thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood (aima #129) of no manner of flesh (sarkos #4561): for the life (psuche #5590) of all flesh (sarkos #4561) is the blood (aima #129) thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood (aima #129) of goats and calves, but by his own blood (aima #129) he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood (aima #129) of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh (sarkos #4561):
14 How much more shall THE BLOOD (AIMA #129) OF CHRIST, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for THIS CAUSE he is the mediator of the New Testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be THE DEATH OF THE TESTATOR.
17 FOR A TESTAMENT IS OF FORCE AFTER MEN ARE DEAD: For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood (#129).
19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood (#129) of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
20 Saying, This is the blood (aima #129) of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood (aima #129) both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood (aima #129); and without shedding of blood (aima #129) is no remission (afesin #859) of sin.
23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood (aima #129) of others;
26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood (aima #129) of the everlasting covenant ,
21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body (soma #4983).
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood (aima #129) of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission (afesin #859) of sins.
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh (sarkos #4561) of the Son of man, and drink his blood (aima #129), ye have no life (zoe #2222) in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh (sarkos #4561), and drinketh my blood (aima #129), hath eternal life (zoe #2222); and I WILL RAISE HIM UP AT THE LAST DAY.
55 For my flesh (sarkos #4165)is meat indeed, and my blood (aima #129) is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh (sarkos #4165), and drinketh my blood (aima #129), dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
When eating the Supper of the Lord we should remember that, "The soul of the flesh is in the blood" (Lev 17:11 and Lev 17:14). Jesus offered His blood on the Cross and His body of flesh to God as a sin-offering on our behalf. His blood was offered for the redemption/resurrection of our souls. His body of flesh was offered for the redemption/resurrection of our bodies.
Isa 53:10-12
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul (psuche #5590) an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul (psuche #5590), and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul (psuche #5590)unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
The Son of God's blood/soul was offered for the redemption/resurrection of our souls. The Son of God's flesh/body was offered for the redemption/resurrection of our bodies. And the Son of God made intercession on our behalf with God, His Father, Who is now our Father.
"The soul of the flesh is in the blood." (Lev 17:11 and Lev 17:14).

Tablet ignites debate on messiah and resurrection

From: http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/07/05/africa/06stone.php

JERUSALEM: A three-foot-tall tablet with 87 lines of Hebrew that scholars believe dates from the decades just before the birth of Jesus is causing a quiet stir in biblical and archaeological circles, especially because it may speak of a messiah who will rise from the dead after three days.

If such a messianic description really is there, it will contribute to a developing re-evaluation of both popular and scholarly views of Jesus, since it suggests that the story of his death and resurrection was not unique but part of a recognized Jewish tradition at the time.

The tablet, probably found near the Dead Sea in Jordan according to some scholars who have studied it, is a rare example of a stone with ink writings from that era — in essence, a Dead Sea Scroll on stone.

It is written, not engraved, across two neat columns, similar to columns in a Torah. But the stone is broken, and some of the text is faded, meaning that much of what it says is open to debate.

Still, its authenticity has so far faced no challenge, so its role in helping to understand the roots of Christianity in the devastating political crisis faced by the Jews of the time seems likely to increase.

Daniel Boyarin, a professor of Talmudic culture at the University of California at Berkeley, said that the stone was part of a growing body of evidence suggesting that Jesus could be best understood through a close reading of the Jewish history of his day.

"Some Christians will find it shocking — a challenge to the uniqueness of their theology — while others will be comforted by the idea of it being a traditional part of Judaism," Boyarin said.

Given the highly charged atmosphere surrounding all Jesus-era artifacts and writings, both in the general public and in the fractured and fiercely competitive scholarly community, as well as the concern over forgery and charlatanism, it will probably be some time before the tablet's contribution is fully assessed. It has been around 60 years since the Dead Sea Scrolls were uncovered, and they continue to generate enormous controversy regarding their authors and meaning.

The scrolls, documents found in the Qumran caves of the West Bank, contain some of the only known surviving copies of biblical writings from before the first century AD In addition to quoting from key books of the Bible, the scrolls describe a variety of practices and beliefs of a Jewish sect at the time of Jesus.

How representative the descriptions are and what they tell us about the era are still strongly debated. For example, a question that arises is whether the authors of the scrolls were members of a monastic sect or in fact mainstream. A conference marking 60 years since the discovery of the scrolls will begin on Sunday at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, where the stone, and the debate over whether it speaks of a resurrected messiah, as one iconoclastic scholar believes, also will be discussed.

Oddly, the stone is not really a new discovery. It was found about a decade ago and bought from a Jordanian antiquities dealer by an Israeli-Swiss collector who kept it in his Zurich home. When an Israeli scholar examined it closely a few years ago and wrote a paper on it last year, interest began to rise. There is now a spate of scholarly articles on the stone, with several due to be published in the coming months.

"I couldn't make much out of it when I got it," said David Jeselsohn, the owner, who is himself an expert in antiquities. "I didn't realize how significant it was until I showed it to Ada Yardeni, who specializes in Hebrew writing, a few years ago. She was overwhelmed. 'You have got a Dead Sea Scroll on stone,' she told me."

Much of the text, a vision of the apocalypse transmitted by the angel Gabriel, draws on the Old Testament, especially the prophets Daniel, Zechariah and Haggai.

Yardeni, who analyzed the stone along with Binyamin Elitzur, is an expert on Hebrew script, especially of the era of King Herod, who died in 4 BC The two of them published a long analysis of the stone more than a year ago in Cathedra, a Hebrew-language quarterly devoted to the history and archaeology of Israel, and said that, based on the shape of the script and the language, the text dated from the late first century BC

A chemical examination by Yuval Goren, a professor of archaeology at Tel Aviv University who specializes in the verification of ancient artifacts, has been submitted to a peer-review journal. He declined to give details of his analysis until publication, but he said that he knew of no reason to doubt the stone's authenticity.

It was in Cathedra that Israel Knohl, an iconoclastic professor of Bible studies at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, first heard of the stone, which Yardeni and Elitzur dubbed "Gabriel's Revelation," also the title of their article. Knohl posited in a book published in 2000 the idea of a suffering messiah before Jesus, using a variety of rabbinic and early apocalyptic literature as well as the Dead Sea Scrolls. But his theory did not shake the world of Christology as he had hoped, partly because he had no textual evidence from before Jesus.

When he read "Gabriel's Revelation," he said, he believed he saw what he needed to solidify his thesis, and he has published his argument in the latest issue of The Journal of Religion.

Knohl is part of a larger scholarly movement that focuses on the political atmosphere in Jesus' day as an important explanation of that era's messianic spirit. As he notes, after the death of Herod, Jewish rebels sought to throw off the yoke of the Rome-supported monarchy, so the rise of a major Jewish independence fighter could take on messianic overtones.

In Knohl's interpretation, the specific messianic figure embodied on the stone could be a man named Simon who was slain by a commander in the Herodian army, according to the first-century historian Josephus. The writers of the stone's passages were probably Simon's followers, Knohl contends.

The slaying of Simon, or any case of the suffering messiah, is seen as a necessary step toward national salvation, he says, pointing to lines 19 through 21 of the tablet — "In three days you will know that evil will be defeated by justice" — and other lines that speak of blood and slaughter as pathways to justice.

To make his case about the importance of the stone, Knohl focuses especially on line 80, which begins clearly with the words "L'shloshet yamin," meaning "in three days." The next word of the line was deemed partially illegible by Yardeni and Elitzur, but Knohl, who is an expert on the language of the Bible and Talmud, says the word is "hayeh," or "live" in the imperative. It has an unusual spelling, but it is one in keeping with the era.

Two more hard-to-read words come later, and Knohl said he believed that he had deciphered them as well, so that the line reads, "In three days you shall live, I, Gabriel, command you."

To whom is the archangel speaking? The next line says "Sar hasarin," or prince of princes. Since the Book of Daniel, one of the primary sources for the Gabriel text, speaks of Gabriel and of "a prince of princes," Knohl contends that the stone's writings are about the death of a leader of the Jews who will be resurrected in three days.

He says further that such a suffering messiah is very different from the traditional Jewish image of the messiah as a triumphal, powerful descendant of King David.

"This should shake our basic view of Christianity," he said as he sat in his office of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem where he is a senior fellow in addition to being the Yehezkel Kaufman Professor of Biblical Studies at Hebrew University. "Resurrection after three days becomes a motif developed before Jesus, which runs contrary to nearly all scholarship. What happens in the New Testament was adopted by Jesus and his followers based on an earlier messiah story."

Yardeni said she was impressed with the reading and considered it indeed likely that the key illegible word was "hayeh," or "live." Whether that means Simon is the messiah under discussion, she is less sure.

Moshe Bar-Asher, president of the Israeli Academy of Hebrew Language and emeritus professor of Hebrew and Aramaic at the Hebrew University, said he spent a long time studying the text and considered it authentic, dating from no later than the first century BC His 25-page paper on the stone will be published in the coming months.

Regarding Knohl's thesis, Bar-Asher is also respectful but cautious. "There is one problem," he said. "In crucial places of the text there is lack of text. I understand Knohl's tendency to find there keys to the pre-Christian period, but in two to three crucial lines of text there are a lot of missing words."

Moshe Idel, a professor of Jewish thought at Hebrew University who has just published a book on the son of God, said that given the way every tiny fragment from that era yielded scores of articles and books, "Gabriel's Revelation" and Knohl's analysis deserved serious attention. "Here we have a real stone with a real text," he said. "This is truly significant."

Knohl said that it was less important whether Simon was the messiah of the stone than the fact that it strongly suggested that a savior who died and rose after three days was an established concept at the time of Jesus. He notes that in the Gospels, Jesus makes numerous predictions of his suffering and New Testament scholars say such predictions must have been written in by later followers because there was no such idea present in his day.

But there was, he said, and "Gabriel's Revelation" shows it.

"His mission is that he has to be put to death by the Romans to suffer so his blood will be the sign for redemption to come," Knohl said. "This is the sign of the son of Joseph. This is the conscious view of Jesus himself. This gives the Last Supper an absolutely different meaning. To shed blood is not for the sins of people but to bring redemption to Israel."

30AD "They shall look on Him whom they pierced"

Prophecy ~ 520 BC History ~ 30AD

Zechariah 12:10-13:1
"And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 And the land shall mourn, every family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14 all the families that remain, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves. 13:1 "In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.
NKJV

John 19:30-37
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. 31 Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. 36 For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, "Not one of His bones shall be broken." 37 And again another Scripture says, "They shall look on Him whom they pierced."

30AD The Firstfruits Offering was not from the first fruit ever produced

Some wonder: "How can Christ be 'The Firstfruits from the Dead' if other people have been raised from the Dead first?"
One way to answer that is to recall how a tree's first offering of fruit was actually its fourth year of producing fruit as described below:
Lev 19:23-25

23 'And when you enter the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden. Three years it shall be forbidden to you; it shall not be eaten. 24 'But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord. 25 'And in the fifth year you are to eat of its fruit, that its yield may increase for you; I am the Lord your God.
NASB
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't worry, Jesus is still "The Firstfruits from the Dead" even though He is not the first person to be raised from the dead.
Even as, Jesus is still "The Firstborn of All Creation" even though He is not created nor the first to be born into Creation.
As "The Firstfruits from the Dead," Jesus is the select representative of those raised from the Dead.
As "The Firstborn of All Creation," Jesus is the select representative of all born into Creation.
Let us remember that "select" = "chosen"
and that the oil of anointing signified that God had chosen the one anointed
and that "The Anointed One"(English) = "Christ" (Greek) = "Messiah" (Hebrew)
When we say, "Jesus Christ" which is the same as saying "Jesus is the Christ"
we are saying all of the above.
